A Renewable Future: Our Energy and Jobs Plan
The Palaszczuk Government’s $62b Energy and Jobs plan will deliver cheaper power prices for all Queenslanders, create around 100,000 jobs and deliver a cleaner, renewable future free from coal fired power.
Energy and Jobs Plan: Cheaper, Cleaner Energy Across Queensland
It is an exciting chapter for Queensland as we release a new plan to deliver cheaper, cleaner and secure energy across our state.
Our Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan takes action on climate change, whilst also delivering cheaper power bills for Queenslanders.
We know that renewable energy is the way of the future: it is the cheapest form of new energy generation and it’s being used widely around the world as a clean energy solution.
Which is why we’re investing in clean energy and renewables across the state, and by building the world’s biggest pumped hydro west of Mackay.
This massive project — the Pioneer-Burdekin Pumped Hydro — will supply half of our state’s entire energy needs.
It will be part of Australia’s largest energy SuperGrid by transporting renewable energy from the regions, powering industry and households.
New industrial jobs will be created in hydrogen, renewables, manufacturing and critical minerals.
It means that by 2032, 70% of Queensland’s energy supply will be renewable. By 2035, it will be 80%.
A huge 109 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent will be reduced from our electricity grid by 2035 – which is the same as taking 28 million cars off the road.
And it means that by 2035 we will no longer rely on coal to power our homes.
Through our plan, we will keep Queensland’s energy assets in public hands for the future and maintain 100% public ownership of deep storage, transmission, and distribution.
And it sets up Queensland’s economy for the future.
This is the biggest investment in clean energy and emissions reduction in Australia’s history and I’m proud to say we’re delivering it now.
